It's around 6 PM in the evening. I was dying of laughter as the fireside episode ended, and it was pure chaos. I'm basically weeping, and I've been sick today, too, so I'm a complete mess as laughter mixes with cough and tears.
You're probably wondering how I got into this mess. Well, let's backtrack to the morning.
It's 6:50 AM as the alarm clock semi-woke me up from sleep. It's one of those rare mornings when you wake up, and a smile immediately spreads. I remembered why I set up the alarm clock so early - the Worlds Beyond Number Patreon was about to launch in 10 minutes, and the launch party was already happening. Time to make coffee and take out my credit card.
The launch party was precisely the chaos I anticipated - or maybe even a little more - when you put Brennan Lee Mulligan, Erika Ishii, Lou Wilson, and Aabria Iyengar in a room together. They are such good friends, and I vibe with their chemistry so much.
As the launch party faded and America went to sleep, I started my journey into the first preview of The Wizard, The Witch, and The Wild One's story.
I will separate my thoughts into a few sections so you can skip around if you want. Let's dive right into it!
The Music is Out of This World
Taylor Moore did such a fantastic job on this one. And it's just the preview!! Imagine what the entire campaign will feel like.
There's ambient music, epic music, and more. Good headphones are a must for this podcast, as the podcast will do things to your ears that other podcasts usually don't. And you'll love every second of it.
Brennan and Aabria's Chemistry is Perfect
Imagine taking a peek at someone's table. What do you see? If there's trust and good chemistry between the DM and the player, unforgettable moments could emerge. But if there isn't any or enough confidence, it would feel like the player is at odds with the DM.
Brennan and Aabria's chemistry is SO GOOD that I imagine Aabria falling backward, 100% trusting that Brennan will catch her and lead her where she needs to go.
The scenes in that preview are not all roses and smiles. And Aabria kinda wept through most of it.
The Game World is Genuinely Interesting
Brennan's worldbuilding is always stellar. This game world is no exception. I have so many questions about a particular shape-shifting creature, the Citadel, the role of magic in this world, and more.
History is also important. It seems like the preview happens in the middle of a conflict. And I'm not talking about a dispute between farmers. This is one hell of a conflict.
Suvi is a Fun Character
Aabria always makes unforgettable characters (Laerryn, anyone?), but from the little bit we've seen of Suvi this far, I'm enjoying it very much.
There's so much we don't know yet, but we do know Suvi is adventurous, playful, and cunning. I'm excited to see more of her.
I'm Excited For The Rest
It's just the beginning, folks. This podcast will have many campaigns, stories, funny bits, and more in the coming weeks and months, and I'm here for all of it!
It's a fantastic time to be a listener. Check it out here if you haven't already: Worlds Beyond Number.
